It has been three years that the music fans lost their popular figure, Chester Bennington from the band Linkin Park. The singer committed suicide by hanging at his Palos Verdes home near Los Angeles on July 20 2017.  His incredible stage performances were one of the reasons why he was popular among the fans. But there always remains a question that needs to be pondered on – why such a successful person, who seemed to have no trouble getting by had to take his own life? The short answer is his battle with addiction and depression. The death of his good friend Chris Cornell, who also killed himself had impacted Bennington a lot.

If we rewind history, we find many artists who took their own lives. Those include Kurt Kobain, Neal Casal, Tom Evans, Danny Gatton, etc. Some researches suggest that artists are at greater risks of suicide than the general population because of their high prevalence of mental illness, especially mood disorders. For singers, drugs have always been a problem. Substance abuse is one of the major causes of depressions as well. Furthermore, many artists have lost their lives from the overdose of drugs.

In a nutshell, artists should regularly seek support from them with they are with. Everyone should understand that tragedy occurs to them at a certain point in time. Speaking about tragedy, Eric Clapton had also faced a similar situation where he was indulged in alcoholism. He lost his good friend Stevie Ray Vaughn. After a short period of time, he lost his child. Nonetheless, he controlled his emotions and went for good. Likewise, Queen guitarist returned from the point where he had already made up his mind to take his life. To overcome this problem, every person should understand that substance abuse should be stopped immediately.
