A Jugalbandi is a performance in Indian traditional music, particularly the Hindustani established music that highlights a duet of two solo performers. The word Jugalbandi implies, truly, “weaved twins.” The two part harmony can be either vocal or instrumental.

What characterizes Jugalbandi is that the two soloists be on an equivalent balance. While any music performance may include two musicians, a performance must be considered a Jugalbandi if nor is unmistakably the soloist and nor obviously the accompanist. In Jugalbandi, both the musicians acts as lead players, and an energetic rivalry exists between the two performers.
