You probably think that you’re a savvy viewer who watches a lot of reality television programs and knows what’s real and what’s “reality,” right? Well, think again! Because the majority of such so-called reality shows are scripted and everything is closely doctored. We are not trying to convince you that every word and action in a reality show is scripted. But there is a whole lot of pulling of strings behind the scenes on every reality show there’s ever been, compressing time and performing myriad other duties to make the end product more engaging and entertaining. Some of the events on the shows are staged to increase the ratings of the show. People fell for the bait and these shows, in a way, manipulate the audiences  in order to get the most out of their business.

Talking about the ongoing, trending Voice of Nepal 2, the selection of contestants despite of their clear off tune singing have shown an indication to nepotism. Similarly, suspicions of sympathy vote has even questioned the integrity and sole purpose of the show. A heated debate has started in the social media regarding these things as better singers are being left behind. This is the case not only with VON. The debate on the first Nepal idol had also created a major controversy at the time. There are rumors that reality shows such as Nepal Idol, Miss Nepal are allegedly defrauding participants and their guardians of cash on the pretext of audition and prize money.  There are suspicions that the judge’s votes may not even truly decide who goes and who leaves.

We are not trying to create any sort of controversies or defame anyone because such shows have brought more good than bad. But, at the end of the day what matters the most to such reality shows is money and from what we have seen, and what the rumors say, everyone is left with the question- “Are reality shows really ‘Real’? “.Well, we would like to leave it for the audience to decide!,
